Sammy’s stuff
A few months ago I made a video. Just for me, really.
A kid riding his bike through a suburban street. Late 80s. Hills Hoist spinning in someone's backyard. A dad washing the Kingswood in the driveway. The ice cream truck in the distance.
I posted it and went to bed.
I woke up to hundreds of comments. People sharing where they grew up. What street. What year. What they missed most. A lot of them said it made them cry.
One bloke wrote: "This is exactly what I needed today. Thanks for reminding me where I came from."
That one stuck with me.
We're living through a strange time. Everything costs too much. Everyone's angry about something. The news is exhausting. Sometimes you just need to remember that things were simpler once. That you come from somewhere real.
That's what these videos are about for me. Not just nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. But holding onto the things that made us who we are, before they disappear completely.
Anyway. That's why I started this newsletter. More soon.
